Worsley Cottage – Maryborough Midlands Historical Society – Maryborough, Victoria

Posted on July 28, 2012

Maryborough Midlands Historical Society will be open on the day of the Fair from 2 – 4 pm, the same as the Autumn Fair.  Their educational banner, information and directions will be on display in the foyer of the Maryborough Anglican Hall at the Art of Elegance Winter Fair on 12th August, 2012.   The organization has a beautiful complex in Worsley Cottage Museum and surrounds, with interesting resources and is well worth a visit.  Shown here from State Library of Victoria photographic collection (above left) are the buildings at the corner of Clarendon and Neill Street, Maryborough, as they were from 1890 – 1920.  The Autumn Art of Elegance Fair was held in the Maryborough Town Hall on May 13th 2012, and this image shows the side of it, before the Deco additions.  Phillips Botanical Gardens (above right) had an extensive garden layout and many other features, including this lovely hothouse in winter, bursting with blooms, up until the 1950’s which has since been demolished.  The gardens are still lovely, with a new hothouse added with greenery inside, regenerated again after the long years of drought took their toll on some of the species trees there.  These pictures give a glimpse of the heritage of the town, and show a nice elegance of past eras.  More information on heritage buildings can be found at Maryborough Visitor Information Centre.   This is just a small glimpse of the history of Maryborough and much more can be learned at Worsley Cottage.  For details how to get there, see below, or ask for information at the Fair.
