Paramount Setting Up for Soiree  Soiree Flyer  Setting Up Artists ArrivingLovely Entrance to Theatrette   Fab Foyer and Rod How

Last Thursday evening at 8 pm the Paramount Theatre in Nolan Street Maryborough was the perfect vintage venue for the inaugural Spring Soiree, hosted by Fay White, a blend of song, spoken word, poetry, story and folk.  A range of very talented musicians and poets held the audience spellbound — composer for TV and film Greg Joseph, John Sullivan poet, Fay White and her choir members, Gail Oliver award winning poet, Paddy Barr musician/songwriter, and Caithlin Maeve musician/songwriter.  These talented artists all hail from Victorian Goldfields region, rich in material for creativity.  One patron came from as far away as Queenscliff, and thoroughly enjoyed the performance.  Rod How, who owns and runs the heritage 1930’s era theatre, feels the venue lends itself well to a varied line up of artists offering pure entertainment to audiences, as the acoustics are perfectly suited.  While a great offering of different films is being shown for the Casablanca Club this November, (including a representation for the Centenary of WW1, contact Paramount Theatre for details below), there is further entertainment along the similar lines of live performance as the Soiree planned.  The evening was a great success, with patrons lingering in the foyer afterwards, enjoying the vintage surrounds of  Hollywood film/screen icon posters and fabulous memorabilia from its long time film enthusiast/projectionist owner’s collection.  The original projection room was open for inspection by patrons, something rarely seen by the general public, and certainly inspired lots of questions and praise.   The Soiree format has been used in Maryborough region for Words in Winter for three successful seasons, and when patrons also wanted this format in a warmer climate and larger venue, the result was the Spring Soiree under the Central Goldfields Spring Fling banner.  This fest runs for a month every October, and Words in Winter runs all August in the Goldfields region.  It was a wonderful evening of first class performance, something that patrons will see more of, with other events planned.  This theatre is a must see for any heritage tourist or film enthusiast, and well worth the drive from Melbourne.  Party bookings contact the theatre in advance on the details below.  A great night was had by all!  Big thank you to Rod How, Fay White, Gail Oliver, Margaret, patrons, and the all very talented performers who presented a wonderful evening out.
